Search "energy drinks near me" in Bolingbrook and you'll mostly find coolers: rows of cans, mixed months ago in a factory, with the numbers that matter printed in type you need a magnifying glass to read. Fuel Up's energy drinks work the other way. Ours are called LIT TEAs, they're built the moment you order, and the caffeine, sugar, and calorie counts sit on the menu in full-size print.

What the can doesn't tell you

Flip a can around sometime. Harvard's Nutrition Source puts a typical 12 oz energy drink at around 41 grams of sugar, and notes that caffeine content runs as high as 500mg per can — often blended from sources the label doesn't break down. That combination is where the famous energy-drink arc comes from: the spike, the hour of speed, the 2 PM nosedive.

There's a regulatory wrinkle in there too, from the same Harvard page: the FDA caps soda at 71mg of caffeine per 12 ounces, but energy drinks routinely carry 120mg in the same 12 ounces — they simply aren't held to the soda limit. The can category is built on numbers most people never see.

Now the same three numbers for ours: 160mg of caffeine in a 24 oz, 240mg in a 32 oz — all of it from green tea — with less than 1 gram of sugar and 25 calories. No mystery blend stacked on top, and nothing doing sugar's crash-building work in the background. When the sugar isn't there, there's a lot less to crash from.

The can-to-cup swap

The job description doesn't change: you want to be sharp for the next few hours. What changes is everything around the caffeine.

A LIT TEA is poured over ice the minute you order it — not pulled from a shelf where it's been sitting since spring. You can watch the build, and every part of it is something you can point at: green-tea caffeine doing the work, real fruit doing the flavor, cucumber wheels and lemon slices doing the finishing. The 24 oz runs $10.25 and carries about as much caffeine as two cups of coffee; the 32 oz is $13.35 for the full 240mg. Pick by what your afternoon actually needs, not by what fits in a cup holder.

Nine flavors, sorted by what you used to drink

Can drinkers land fast here, because the flavor map translates directly. If your can of choice tasted like sour candy, start with Skittles or Electric Lemonade. If you drank the tropical ones, Tropical Splash and Strawberry Cucumber are your lane. If you liked the crisp, barely-sweet kind, Watermelon Cucumber and Cucumber Mojito — that one finished with a hint of Tajín — will feel familiar in the best way.

Tell the counter what you used to grab at the gas station and they'll translate it into a flavor in about ten seconds.

When we'll talk you out of one

Honest counter policy: not every visit should end in caffeine. Ordering at 6 PM with a normal bedtime ahead? A 16 oz Caffeine-Free Refresher — $7.15, 25 calories, zero caffeine — delivers the cold, fruity part of the ritual without the wide-awake-at-midnight part, and it's the standing answer for kids' orders too. Want something functional in the cup instead? The 32 oz Functional Wellness Refreshers run the same caffeine-free lane with ingredients like aloe, probiotics, and vitamins at 25 to 70 calories.

One more correction worth making out loud, because the energy-drink world has trained people to expect it: our wellness shots are not energy shots. All three — Digestive & Gut Health, Beauty & Collagen, and Immunity Support, $5.10 each — contain zero caffeine. Each does one focused job, and "wake you up" isn't any of them. If you walked in expecting a tiny bottle of jet fuel, what you actually want is the LIT TEA.

Swapping the habit is the easy part

The gas-station stop and the Fuel Up stop take about the same two minutes. We're at 325 N Weber Road, open Monday through Friday 6 AM to 6 PM and Saturday 8 AM to 5 PM — early enough that the morning-can habit has a same-schedule replacement. Call (708) 556-9800 and your drink will be ready when you pull up, or order through order.online for pickup and delivery.

Compare the full Energizing Refreshers lineup before you come in. Same energy as the can. None of the fine print.

Questions we get asked

Do you sell canned energy drinks?

No — and that's the point. Every energy drink here is a LIT TEA built when you order it, with the caffeine, sugar, and calorie numbers printed on the menu instead of hidden on the back of a can.

How much caffeine is in your energy drinks compared to a can?

Ours are printed: 160mg in a 24 oz, 240mg in a 32 oz, all from green tea. Canned energy drinks range wildly — some carry as much as 500mg per can — which is exactly why we put the number where you can read it before you order.

How much sugar do your energy drinks have?

Less than 1 gram, at 25 calories per drink, every flavor. A typical 12 oz canned energy drink carries around 41 grams of sugar — the crash is baked into the can, not the caffeine.

Are your wellness shots energy shots?

No — none of our three wellness shots contains caffeine. Digestive & Gut Health, Beauty & Collagen, and Immunity Support ($5.10 each) each do one focused job. If you want energy, the LIT TEA is the lane.

What does a made-to-order energy drink cost?

$10.25 for the 24 oz with 160mg of caffeine, $13.35 for the 32 oz with 240mg. If you want the flavor without the caffeine, a 16 oz Caffeine-Free Refresher is $7.15.
